School of Horsemanship is unique in that we offer
driving and horse handling lessons with our Miniature
Horses. These diminutive equines are small, but
mighty, and can easily pull an adult or child in a cart.
Our minis are very well mannered and highly trained
in obstacle and dressage driving. We also have
great fun taking
them out on the trails!
For those who are just
starting out, the basics of driving
can be quickly mastered and, even if you have no previous
experience with horses, you are usually able to
drive unassisted by the end of the first lesson. If
necessary an experienced driver will sit with you in the
cart until you feel comfortable. Progress at your own
rate. Those who feel comfortable trotting are encouraged
to do so. Our minis are well trained and patient
and are great with children. Driving is a great
family activity!
For
experienced drivers, our minis are well trained in
dressage and obstacle driving and have successfully
shown in AMHA sanctioned shows as well as local fall
fairs. Students who would like to show are
encouraged and supported in this endeavour.
Drivers
with disabilities, or those who are no longer able to
ride would find driving minis a wonderful
alternative to riding. Assistance with harnessing
the horse is available.
