2017Summer Camps
We had a great time at camp in 2017!

Our Summer Riding Camps offer fun and instruction for riders from beginner to intermediate levels. Kathy Harrison has over 30 years of experience instructing all levels of riders. Our show quality school horses are highly trained and well behaved in the ring and on the trails. All beginner riders are paired with a helper while riding or handling the horses to ensure they receive maximum attention and assistance.  Experienced riders are given instruction based on their level of knowledge and ability, and are encouraged to develop to their full potential. We offer two very unique activities - Miniature Horse Driving and Trail Rides on our own "chip trail". Students ride every day for a minimum of one hour of instruction.  In addition to riding instruction, students receive instruction on the all-important area of ground work as is outlined in our Horsemanship Level 1 course.

Camp activities include:

  • A daily one hour English Riding Lesson on our well trained, patient school horses in our spacious indoor riding ring.

  • Trail rides on the stable property.

  • Cart driving with our Miniature Horse, Rio, in the ring and on the trails.  The basics of driving can be quickly mastered and even those with no previous experience with horses are usually able to drive unassisted by the end of the first lesson.  If necessary an experienced driver will sit with the student in the cart until he/she feels comfortable.

  • Our popular Horsemanship Level 1 Course is included in this camp.  Students learn how horses think, how they communicate, and why they do the things they do and they get extensive practical experience applying this knowledge.  In these classes they will:

    • learn to understand and apply horse psychology to develop better relationships with horses
    • obtain tools to develop a deeper mutual trust, understanding, and respect with horses
    • learn to understand what horses are "saying" to you
    • learn how to communicate to horses what you want from them
    • learn how and when to apply pressure and release techniques
    • improve their confidence in being around and riding horses
  • Students learn about horse care and stable management.

  • And much more!

Each Head Instructor, will be assisted by an Assistant Instructor and several experienced helpers to ensure all participants get plenty of individual attention. As safety is an important consideration, riders with less experience are led on the trails and in lessons until they gain enough skill and knowledge to ride off the lead line.

Students are required to supply a riding helmet and riding boots.  We can offer assistance as to where to purchase these items.  Students should bring a lunch.
